Youth of the Year
Meet Leticia
Leticia Casiano became a Club member as a freshman at Regan High. Evidently, excellence runs in the family, because Leticia’s older sister Diamantina (now a UT student) was our Youth of the Year in 2006! As one of six children raised by a single mom, Leticia and her family have endured many challenges. Says Leticia, “The main struggle for our family was to not eat too much, so there would be enough food for the next day.” Despite their challenges, or perhaps because of them, Leticia and her family are very close. She believes that being a good role model for her younger siblings, and taking on responsibilities passed down from her older siblings, are equally important.
In only her second year as an Air Force JROTC Cadet, Leticia was named Commanding Officer, a position normally reserved for a fourth year Cadet. Her numerous extracurricular activities include cheerleading, cross-country, track, softball and volleyball, but she always finds time to give back to the community. Recently Leticia led a blanket and toiletry drive for the city’s homeless; as well, she is involved in UT Outreach and LUCLAC. Reagan Club Director Luis Jackson says, “In my humble opinion, Leticia Casiano exemplifies the meaning of a model student and Club member. She is a leader and an inspiration to her peers, a self-starter who is as caring as she is goal-oriented, and a genuine pleasure to be around.”
Leticia’s plans include attending Texas A&M University, joining the Air Force and starting a family. But first, she plans to graduate from Reagan High School in at least the top 10% of her class.
